The Hijacking of a Philosophy
The Hijacking of a Philosophy, Homosexuals vs. Ayn Rand's Objectivism.
by Reginald Firehammer
[NOTE: This is an entirely self-contained ebook. No special reader or software is required.]
Many politically conservative homosexuals are attracted to Objectivism because of Objectivism's emphasis on individual liberty. There is a movement among many of these homosexuals and their sympathizers to take over Objectivism and change it from a philosophy to a, "movement," or "way of life;" to make it inclusive of ideas and practices inimical to Objectivism. The movement repudiates anyone calling themselves an Objectivist who does not support homosexual practices, as well as, embracing them as normal, moral, and benevolent, while claiming themselves and their movement to be the "true Objectivism." It is this movement this book analyzes and exposes.
Primarily meant for those with an interest in Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism, the book deals broadly with the fundamental issues of normality, morality, and sexuality, and will be useful to anyone interested in the philosophical, social, or personal nature of these concepts. Anyone concerned with what is known as the "homosexual agenda," will find this book valuable.
We emphasize in our foreword, "we are not indicting individuals, only some of their ideas; we are not impugning persons, only the some of the views they advance." There are no personal attacks, but ideas are criticized ruthlessly and unapologetically.
The book centers on the recent release of a monograph entitled, Ayn Rand, Homosexuality, and Human Liberation which consists of five articles (with additions and changes) originally published on the WEB by Dr. Chris Matthew Sciabarra.
Mr. Lindsay Perigo's announcement of that publication includes the following:
"I made it clear, ... one of SOLO's [Sense Of Life Objectivists] first projects would be to exorcise the shocking homophobia that has disgraced the Objectivist movement since Day One...It gives me great pleasure to announce the first publication in the history of Objectivism to repudiate such psychological illiteracy, to acknowledge the emotional carnage it has wrought ....The anti-homophobia part of our mission has, as far as I'm concerned, been accomplished."
Since the original articles that comprise the printed monograph were originally published on the WEB, we use those original five articles as the basis for our analysis and criticism of this movement's purpose, methods, and anti-Objectivist ideas. Links to those page are, unfortunately, no longer available, but, since the content is substantially the same as the published monograph, anyone wishing verify quotes and sources may refer to Dr. Sciabarra's book.
The ebook, The Hijacking of a Philosophy, provides links to all sources. All internal references are also linked. The ebook is entirely self-contained, requiring no special or additional reader or browser, and is printable.
[READ EXCERPT The article, "Prudes and Passion," is an excerpt from the last third of the chapter, "Morality, Normality, and Decency," which defines the principles on which the last chapter, "What's Wrong With Homosexuality?" is based.]
Full Content Description
The Hijacking of a Philosophy consists of eleven main sections and two addendums briefly described below:
- "Preliminary Comments" (Forward)—Introduces the individuals named in the book, and describes its intent.
- "What's In A Name?"—presents Ayn Rand's specific statement of what Objectivism is and explains why those who present ideas contrary to Objectivism in the name of Objectivism are dishonest.
- "Assault of Non-essentials"—based on an Objectivist Center article justifying homosexuality as compatible with Objectivism, and briefly presents most of the false ideas on which the movement is based.
- "False Premises and Methods"—is based on the first of Dr. Sciabarra's articles and introduces the anti-objectivist idea of dialectics being smuggled into Objectivism, as well as some of the false assumptions of this movement.
- "It's Not All Bad"—is based on the second article and explicitly states what is positive in the position of those involved in this movement.
- "Victims of What?"—examines the third article entitled, "horror stories," of Objectivist homosexuals, demonstrating the absurd and false accusations against Objectivists and the irrationality of this movement's ideas.
- "The Agenda"—presents the true purpose and ultimate objective of the movement as revealed in the fourth article.
- "Degradation"—is our analysis of the final article which provides both by example and description the direction of this movement, which is not an uplifting of Objectivist ideals, but the corruption of them.
- "Morality, Normality, and Decency"—is the first of the final two overview sections. This chapter provides a detailed explanation of Objectivist moral principles applied practically to issues of sexuality, in general, and to homosexuality, in particular. It begins with a brief overview of Objectivist moral values, their relationship to man's nature, and applies these values to the nature of choice, normality, normal human behavior, and the relationship of normality to morality.
It includes such specific issues as: the source of desires, particularly, wrong desires that leads to wrong behavior; the nature and source of sexual desire, and Ayn Rand's explanation of the true nature of the, "reason/passion," dichotomy. The true nature of, "self-worthiness," and "self-esteem," are applied in a unique, set of short thought-pieces: "The Virtue of Repression," "Freedom is Self-discipline," "In Praise of Prudery," and "Some Very Prudish Ideas: If it's doubtful, it's dirty; Some things you only get to do once; There is someone watching you? 'Til Death Do Us Part; and How To Be a Prude.
- "What's Wrong With Homosexuality?"—is the final chapter dealing with all that is wrong with this movement and homosexuality itself, including the movement's goals, a list of the specific mistaken ideas associated with the movement, and its methods: deception, vilification, and desensitization.
The specific social, physiological, and psychological problems of homosexuality are described, concluding with a brief discussion of the proper approach for Objectivists to this issue.
- "Addendum"—is a very short discussion of two sources of confusion surrounding the whole question of the "homosexual agenda," education and the religious community.
- Addendum 2—is our response to early critical comments from the publisher (Lindsay Perigo) and author (Dr. Chris Sciabarra) of Ayn Rand, Homosexuality, and Human Liberation, the book which bears the brunt of our criticisms.
- "Links"— is a comprehensive list of Internet sources relating to all the major subjects of the book, organized as follows: Objectivist Resources | Homosexuality - General Resources | Homosexuality - Determined or Chosen | Reasonable Opinions and Views | The Homosexual Agenda | Homosexual Agenda and Schools | Homosexuality and Health | Homosexuality, Pedophilia, Child Abuse, and Violence | Homosexual Help | Homosexual Help - Religious Resources | Self Harm | Marriage | The Other Side.
