Philosophy:

A Temporary Note

A certain urgency has made it necessary to address some philosophical questions now, which really belong in another place in the order of things.

The first of these "unplanned" pieces is on the nature of emotions and is entitled, "Feelings." The second is on the nature of desires and is entitle, surprisingly, Desires. I have provided links to two other important and related articles, "Perception", and "Commentary - Humor."

The two new pieces, Feelings and Desires, will ultimately be part of the "Nature of Man" section of Autonomist Philosophy Series. These have been done somewhat hurriedly and I will appreciate any errors or corrections my readers suggest. They will also probably receive some additional editing and material.

This note is temporary, because it will disappear when the rest of the series catches up with these articles.

Feelings A brief explanation of what emotions are, their nature and place in our philosophical understanding of human nature and values. [11/02/04]

Desires A brief explanation of what desires are, their nature and place in our philosophical understanding of human nature. [11/02/04]

Perception Explains some serious errors in the Objectivist explanation of consciousness and provides a complete theory of perception that corrects those Objectivist mistakes. Since the emotions are percepts, the principles of perception are necessary to a complete understanding of their nature. [6/8/04]

Commentary - Humor Commentary on humor and emotions from the Autonomist's Notebook. This article discusses the nature of emotions, their purpose, and their importance to human consciousness and life, and provides additional detail to the material in "Feelings". I think this may be one of the fullest treatments on the nature of humor in philosophy.
